The Soca Valley, within the Triglav National Park and close to the Italian border, is considered an outstanding destination, while on the other side of the park it is mostly Bled and Bohinj that attract tourists.

Triglav National Park

Suppose you’re planning a trip to the Triglav National Park and looking for accommodation there. In that case, you need to choose between staying around Bled and Bohinj or in the vicinity of Bovec (i.e. the Soca Valley).

This is because Slovenia’s highest mountain, Mt Triglav, lies in the middle of the Triglav National Park – dividing the park in two, thus separating the towns of Bled and Bovec from each other. The two cities are almost two hours apart.

Cities of Triglav Park

The 5 most important cities in the Triglav National Park are:

  • Bled, where Lake Bled, Bled Island, and Bled Castle are located
  • Bohinj, which is less than 30 minutes from Bled
  • Bovec, which is a stronghold of active sports
  • Kranjska Gora, which is a town not from the Italian border
  • Tolmin, which is part of the Soca Valley
