Porcelain Manufacturing

Meissen is best known as the birthplace of the European porcelain production. In the early 18th century, a local alchemist named Johann Friedrich Böttger, working under the patronage of Elector Augustus of Saxony and the Polish king, discovered the formula for making hard-paste porcelain.

This discovery led to the establishment of the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory (Meißner Porzellan) in 1710, which still operates today. Meissen porcelain is famous for its exceptional quality and intricate hand-painted patterns.
