The charming Hallstatt is Austria's most visited village. The village on the shores of Lake Hallstattersee attracts many tourists every year. Some come here to relax, some to hike in the area. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 as part of the Hallstatt-Dachstein cultural landscape. As mountains cross the Hallstatt area, only a small area could be used to build houses.
