One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Slovenia is the 144-meter-high Boka Waterfall in the Triglav National Park. The huge waterfall is already clearly visible from the road, finding it will not be a problem. The river's strength is staggering in the spring and after heavy rains.
You may have seen photos of the karst waterfall as it is one of the most popular attractions near the city of Bovec. Although Boka is not the highest waterfall in Slovenia, it has the highest water flow and is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular attractions.

Hiking to the waterfall
The waterfall can be admired from several points of view. Depending on how much time you have, how fit you are, or how close you want to get to the waterfall, you can choose from multiple opportunities. From very easy to intermediate hikes, one can pick the best fit:
#1 Bovec from the road
If you only have a few minutes, you don’t have to hike to the lookout, chose this option. Park next to the Bovec-Zaga road and admire the waterfall from the road.
#2 Bovec lookout
A 20-minute hike from the road will take you to the lookout point, which offers a closer view of the waterfall. On the right side of the bridge, a well-marked path leads to the panoramic viewpoint.
It's worth knowing, that from the lookout point, you won't get much closer to the waterfall - than from the road. Thus, we recommend the lookout only to those who wanted to hike anyway.
#3 Bovec top viewpoint
Those who are skillful and curious can continue the trail at their own risk, to the viewpoint above the waterfall. It takes approx. 45 minutes to reach it. From here you will have a greater view.
#4 The long hike
If you are up for a longer hike, you can even go all the way to the point where the waterfall hits the ground. This tour requires endurance and good physical condition. The riverbed tour is a couple of hours hike.
In this case, make sure you are wearing appropriate, closed shoes. The surface of the riverbed is rocky, the terrain is quite tricky.

About the waterfall
The water comes from the high mountains of the Kanin mountain range and then slams into the ground with great force. One consequence of this is that due to the erosion of the impact on the ground, the height of the waterfall is constantly increasing as the water washes the soil beneath it.
The larger of these is a 106-meter fall followed by a 30-meter fall. The width of the water is around 18-20 meters. The average water temperature is 4.5 ° C.
In spring and fall, when the snow melts and collects more rainfall in the area, Boka Falls is especially loud. In this case, it reaches its maximum flow, which can be up to 100 m³ / second. In the droughty summer months, the flow decreases to 2 m³/s.
Boka cave
An interesting thing about the waterfall is that its water comes from an underground cave that has not been fully explored to this day. So far, "only" an 800-meter stretch has been discovered in 1996.
Hence, the cave is not yet open to the public.
